Thank You all for Participating in the Rebel Pedal 2012
A big thank you to everyone who joined in the Rebel Pedal last Saturday. Over 150 people joined in the cycle through the streets of the city and the after pedal picnic at the Atlantic Pond. The photos, mostly by Andy Ferriera, express what an enjoyable and relaxed event it was.
Thanks to all of the following without whose support the event would not be a success:
The Lord Mayor, Cllr John Buttimer for attending the launch photoshoot and the Deputy Lord Mayor, Emmet O’Halloran who set the cyclists off at 12noon from the Grand Parade
An Garda Siochana especially Sgt. John O’Sullivan, the team of motorcycle Gardai and the backup vehicles who do a vital job in managing the pace of the cycle and the traffic at junctions.
The generosity of the voluntary stewards (who as well as the city come from as far afield as Charleville & Schull), the St. John’s Ambulance first aid responders cyclists and ESB Networks for their electric van. All who helped with the registration especially Katarina and Eoin.
Cork City Council (Transportation Division as well as assistance from Parks and Recreation, Roads Division and the Stores) and the Sports Partnership, our partners in the Rebel Pedal. We appreciate the funding from Cork City Council, Environment Division and Cork Metal Company.
The children received “goody bags” the contents of which were donated by the City Council and CEF did printed cotton bags for the adults.
Green Schools Programme which promoted the event in the schools and provided two of the voluntary stewards at the event.
The other cycling organisations such as Cork Community Bikes and Cork Cycling Festival who provide support and publicity every year through their own networks.
Finally a big thank you to the Cycle Shops who donated raffle prizes: Kilgrews, Victoria Cross Cycles, Capwell Cycles, Cycle Scene, City View Wheels, The Edge, The Bike Shop and Douglas Cycles.
It was a lovely sunny afternoon at the Marina, entertained by the wonderful music of “Good Rain” (a Kinsale based band, fronted by Klaus Harvey),activities for the kids were provided by Naomi Fein & Eilish Munday and the creative facepainting from Louise, Niamh and Fionnuala. Deirdre and Bryce’s Eco-Bus provided ample tasty fare for everyone with delicious ice-cream from the Natural Foods Bakery and a caffeine kick from John at Bean & Gone!
As with all such events a picture speaks a thousand words and we would like to thank Andy Ferreira for taking the photos at the launch and capturing the spirit and colourfulness of the cycle and the picnic.
